Scripture: When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. Isaiah 43:2 (NIV)
This is a testimony of redemption, resilience, and covenant. Mark and Debra Rush share how God transformed lives marked by trauma, addiction, devastating loss, and adversity into a marriage anchored in faith, purpose, and service to others.
Mark and Debra were married in June 2017, blending their family of seven children into a home built on faith, restoration, and grace. Both overcame early childhood trauma and seasons of addiction as young adults before surrendering their lives to Christ and stepping into the calling God placed before them.
Today, Mark serves as Associate Pastor at Tabernacle of Praise Church and ministers deeply within the recovery community, working alongside organizations such as Fresno Mission Men’s Academy, Home of Hope in Sanger, Teen Challenge, and Centers for Living Recovery. His ministry is rooted in walking with men through transformation, using his own journey as proof that freedom in Christ is possible.
Debra is the Founder of Breaking the Chains and Kendra’s Cause, nationally recognized efforts dedicated to prevention, advocacy, and restoration for those impacted by human trafficking and trauma. Through leadership, training, and lived experience, she equips communities to confront exploitation while pointing survivors toward healing and identity in Christ.
Together, Mark and Debra share a love story refined through unimaginable trials including financial hardship, leadership pressures, and the heartbreaking loss of their daughter Kendra. Their marriage stands as a testimony that faith does not remove the fire, it reveals God within it. They now dedicate their lives to helping others find hope, healing, and purpose through Jesus.
Each quarter we highlight a ministry or need in our community to support through 9 to 5 for Christ.
