About Our Speaker
Our speaker, Dr. Velda Dobson-Davis will encourage and bless you beyond belief!
Velda Dobson-Davis was born in Walterboro, South Carolina and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. She was raised Methodist and always had a love for the Lord. In 1975, after accepting Christ into her life, she was baptized and began a life of service to God.
Velda attended Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland where she received a full scholarship in Vocal Music. After relocating to California in 1978, she joined the Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Suisun, California and began her career with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Her job has taken her to many cities in northern California and seven different prisons.
Velda began Prison Ministry in 1982 while assigned to California Medical Facility as a Correctional Officer, taking in choirs to minister to the inmates incarcerated there.
In 1984, she transferred to San Quentin State Prison where her calling was birthed. In 1992, she was allowed the opportunity to participate in a musical recording at the prison in a choir comprised of free staff and inmates. In 1993, Velda was encouraged and afforded the opportunity by the administration to become active in ministry. The first Bible studies that she ever taught were conducted at San Quentin State Prison.
In 1994, Velda joined Shiloh Baptist Church and on February 13, 2005 was licensed to preach by Pastor Jesse L. Davis, Sr.
On May 29, 2005, Velda graduated from the Sacramento Theological Seminary where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Biblical Studies. In 2009, Velda completed the Bachelor’s of Vocational Education Program at Sac State. Velda retired officially from state service November 17, 2012 as a Chief Deputy Warden.
However, still believing that she had more to offer, she was allowed to immediately re-turn to work as a Retired Annuitant. Velda worked at Central California Women’s Facility as Project Manger and Lead Facilitator of the new “Beyond Violence” program designed for female offenders who are serving life, life without the possibility of parole and long term sentences.
Velda is the wife of Pastor Paul Davis. She is the proud mother of four children Esco, Christine, Michael and David and “Nana” to 25 Grandchildren. She can be found every week-end traveling from Chowchilla to Hayward willingly proclaiming the Gospel, as a spiritual Bible Teacher, Counselor, effective Evangelist and humble servant of the Lord.
